On November 12, Stan Lee died in Los Angeles at the age of 95. The creator of the ‘Marvel Universe’, he died of a heart attack. His death caused a huge upset in the world of cinema and comics and many celebrities were saddened by the loss of the legendary screenwriter. The father of comics left an enormous legacy. To talk of Stan Lee is to explore more than 70 years of stories, anecdotes and facts that many may neither know nor imagine. Stanley Martin Lieber (Stan’s real name) is basically the forerunner, promoter and representative of the best-known comics in the world. Lee’s first creation consisted of two pages of a comic featuring Captain America.

Captain America (better known as Steve Rogers), was a fictitious superhero and avenger who appears in American comics published by Marvel Comics. Created by the strip cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character appeared for the first time in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941) by Timely Comics, the predecessor of Marvel Comics. Captain America was designed as a patriotic super soldier who frequently fought against the Axis forces in the Second World War, and was Timely Comics’ most popular character during the war. The popularity of superheroes faded after the war, and the Captain America comic stopped being published in 1950, with a brief resurgence in 1953. Ever since Marvel Comics revived the character in 1964, Captain America has continuously been published.

Wonder Woman, real name Maria Mendoza. Maria is an activist, protesting against the corporate excavation of an ancient Incan holy site near her village. The CEO has a plan: gain power from the site and take over the world. When Maria’s father is kidnapped by the CEO and taken to the excavation, Maria follows, only to arrive too late to prevent her father’s death. The CEO gains demonic powers from artifacts at the site, and then travels to Los Angeles. Maria finds the staff of Manco Capac, granting her the powers of the Incan Sun God, and uses them to pursue and defeat him. She then decides to remain in Los Angeles, taking on the name of Wonder Woman.

His first appearance was in The Incredible Hulk #1, published in May 1962. As portrayed in the comic, the character is at the same time Hulk, a green-skinned, bulky, muscular humanoid who possesses a high degree of physical strength and his alter ego Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, a physically weak physicist, socially awkward and emotionally reserved. The two personalities exist independently and resentfully of one another. After his accidental exposure to gamma rays during the detonation of an experimental bomb, Banner is physically transformed into Hulk whenever he undergoes emotional stress, either voluntarily or against his will, something that often leads to a trail of destruction and conflicts that complicate Banner’s life in society. Hulk’s level of strength is normally portrayed in a way that is proportional to his degree of anger. Commonly depicted as a furious savage, Hulk has been represented with other personalities based on the fractured mind of Banner, ranging from a brainless, destructive force to a brilliant warrior or scientific genius in his own right. In spite of the desire for solitude both on behalf of Hulk and Banner, the character possesses a great helping cast that includes Banner’s lover, Betty Ross, his friend Rick Jones, his cousin She-Hulk, his children Hiro-Kala and Skaar, and the co-founders of his team of superheroes, the Avengers. Nevertheless, his uncontrollable strength has led him to enter into conflict with his hero companions and others.

The Fantastic Four is a fictitious team of superheroes. The group made its debut in The Fantastic Four #1 (November 1961), which helped to mark the beginning of a new level of realism in comics. The Fantastic Four was the first team of superheroes created by the writer Stan Lee and the artist Jack Kirby, who developed a collaborative approach in creating comics with this title that they would use from then on.

Iron Man - Behind the nickname stands the famous multimillionaire Anthony Edward Stark, better known as Tony Stark. During his infancy, he was known for having one of the world’s most brilliant minds. He is the adoptive son of Howard Stark and Maria Stark, from whom he inherits Stark Industries. He turned into a great businessman and engineer, which led him to increase his wealth successfully. That led him to lead a luxurious, chaotic and extravagant life that was full of excesses. Stark’s life undergoes a sudden 180° turn the day when he is kidnapped by a group of terrorists and suffers a serious injury owing to the fact that, after a big explosion, a fragment of shrapnel becomes embedded in his chest, each day getting closer to his heart; something that will bring about his inevitable death. After the impact, they operate on him and confine him for months in a hideaway where his kidnappers force him to build a weapon of massive destruction for them. In place of the weapon, Tony Stark creates steel armour for himself in order to protect himself from the terrorists and be able to escape with all sorts of incorporated tailor-made weapons that he is able to use to save his life and escape from his captivity. Finally, he achieves his goal, after which, on returning to his mansion, he decides to stop making weapons that can do harm to the world and instead of that rebuild and improve his armour, thus turning himself into “Iron Man”, a superhero who tries to protect the world. Stan Lee leaves a legacy that will be eternal, including a new unknown superhero that he created a few days before his death. And we will always be able to see him making his famous cameos in movies. In fact, not only will he appear in Avengers 4, but he will also appear in Ralph Breaks the Internet.

X-Men, also known as X Patrol or The X-Men in Latin America. They made their first appearance in September 1963, in the pages of the comic (The Uncanny) X-Men # 1.2​. Their adventures have been published in a variety of comics by Marvel Comics, reaching the point where various monthly collections were devoted to them. What is more, various adaptations were made for cinema, animated series and other works deriving from them. The series starts out from the idea that human evolution would continue actively until it found itself in fact at a crossroads where a new species with great powers and abilities, the mutants, would be born. The protagonists of X-Men are a group of them: mutants are characterised from among the super heroic characters of comics because they have acquired superpowers thanks to mutations and changes in their genetic structure.

Spider Man is a fictitious superhero created by the writers and editors Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. He made his first appearance in the comic anthology Amazing Fantasy # 15 (August 1962). In the stories, Spider-Man is the alias of Peter Parker, an orphan brought up by his aunt May and his uncle Ben in New York City after his parents, Richard and Mary Parker, had died in a plane accident. Lee and Ditko had him struggle with the problems of adolescence and financial problems and they accompanied him with many supportive characters such as J. Jonah Jameson, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, romantic interests in the shape of Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson, and enemies such as Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin and Venom.
