Getaways - Escapadas #Mallorca
With sunshine, beaches and excellent cuisine, Mallorca meets every requirement to spend a few 10/10 days!
Mallorca is one of those places that, when you get to know it for the first time, you count the days until you go back again. Others go even further and decide to move to this island to live there all year round.
According to the Sunday Times, Mallorca is the best island in the world to live. Since not all of us can live there, here are a few pieces of advice for those who decide to visit it.
CASTILLO DE BELLVER
Bellver Castle is situated 3 km from the centre of the city of Palma and 112.6 m above sea level, with a commanding view of the bay and a large part of the island of Mallorca.
Construction on it began in the year 1300 on the orders of Jaime II, King of Mallorca. The works on the dike itself lasted nine years while embellishing it was completed later. 70 permanent workers, a large number of women and the King’s slaves worked on the job.
The castle was designed to be a royal residence. The three Kings of Mallorca, Jaime II, Sancho I and Jaime III stayed there for short periods of time. At the end of the 14th century, it was inhabited by Juan I of Aragón and Violante de Bar, with their court.
BAIBEN RESTAURANT
A restaurant created by Fernando P. Arellano (two Michelin stars) where dynamism and design create an essentially Mediterranean atmosphere in the privileged location of Puerto Portals.
Covering 700m2, the restaurant is built around two large spaces: a covered zone designed as a viewpoint that opens onto the port and an exterior zone that encompasses a large terrace It is a fresh, laid-back space that invites you to enjoy it in good company.
Its cuisine is a fusion of foreign cooking with a local touch that is presented on a varied, entertaining menu featuring Mediterranean and Latin American flavours. Paellas, grills, tapas, slow cooking and, of course, a sweet finish with homemade desserts.ES TRENC
The beach of Es Trenc is one of the best beaches in Mallorca, meeting every requirement necessary to rival the beaches of the Caribbean.
Located in the south west of the island of Mallorca, in the village of Campos to be precise, and with plenty of parking spaces, Es Trenc is a genuine Mallorcan paradise, far from hotels and surrounded by nature, pine trees and salt flats.
CALA MONDRAGÓ
Mondragó Nature Reserve is located in the southeast of the island of Mallorca, in the municipality of Santanyí. Made up of cliffs, pine tree vegetation, bushes and traditional farmland, it is one of the most visited parks on the island.
In this same landscape, we find S´Amarador, where several footpaths begin that continue to skirt the coastline, showing us one of the steepest parts of Mallorca’s coastline.
MAX GARDEN RESTAURANT
Located in Palmanova, Max Garden is a restaurant that offers a new gastronomic concept that is unique in the area, in which respect for foodstuffs, for the environment and for flavours from around the world comes to the fore. Featuring decoration that shows a tropical influence and is inspired by nature, Max Garden seeks to offer everyone the chance to eat well and in a healthy fashion in a peaceful environment that invites you to enjoy the sensations, the flavours, the colours and the laughs of shared moments. Max Garden is a meeting point for all those who declare themselves fans of fine conversation with friends, of food with feeling, of what is genuine, of experiences and of authentic personalities.
VALLDEMOSA
With a population of 2,027 inhabitants, Valldemosa is a village situated in the western part of the island of Mallorca. Its steep, narrow streets offer a particular charm. The village preserves the birthplace of Santa Catalina Tomás. Also notable is the XIII century church, which was extensively renovated in the XVIII century. Its main attraction is Cartuja de Valldemosa with its reminder of the period during the winter of 1838-39 (en /es) when the romantic couple Chopin and George Sand stayed there. It was there that Chopin composed his preludes Op. 28 and Sand wrote Un invierno en Mallorca. Without a doubt, a place to lose oneself in its streets.
CUEVAS DEL DRACH
When you are talking about Cuevas del Drach, it is enough to start off by saying that they form part of Spain’s historical heritage. It is a hallmark that speaks for itself, revealing the place’s importance. Not surprisingly, given that it is believed that the caves have been there for more than 5,000 years.
Famous around the world, in their interior they house Lake Martel, considered to be one of the largest subterranean lakes in the world. Live classical music concerts are performed there every day. At the end of the concert, there is the chance to cross the lake by boat. In Porto Cristo, there are two tourist caves; Cuevas del Drach are the biggest and most visited.
CA`S PATRO MARCH
Situated on a cliff top in the tiny rocky cove of Cala Deiá, in Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca, lies the seaward facing restaurant, Ca’s Patro March.
This rustic seasonal restaurant is one of those places with personal charm. Its clientele goes there for its location and the excellent fresh fish and seafood that is caught the same day that it is served.
If fish is not your favourite option, there is also the option of choosing among different meat dishes. If you wish to eat here, we advise you to make a reservation well in advance.
