- Gente Viajera, a program by Onda Cero radio station, embarked on a special journey to Ocean Drive Ibiza.
This year signifies a significant milestone in Ibiza's history, marking a quarter-century since Ibiza was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site in December 1999.
In honour of this significant milestone, the "Gente Viajera" team chose to record their broadcast from the Sky Bar of the iconic Ocean Drive Ibiza hotel, situated in Marina Botafoch and boasting unparalleled vistas of Dalt Vila.
This special occasion offered an opportunity to delve into various facets of the city, including its historic heart, as well as its rich cultural and biological diversity, among other interesting subjects.
Marc Rahola, one of the key guests in the program and our founder and CEO of OD Hotels, emphasized the importance of fostering cultural and artistic initiatives in Ibiza. He elaborated on the hotel group's commitment to sustainable development on the island through its sponsorships and environmentally and culturally focused events.
With a steadfast dedication to music, art, and hospitality, the group’s Ibiza hotels have emerged as the perfect destination for those seeking an authentic Ibiza experience. They serve as platforms where locals and tourists alike can discover emerging artists and partake in cultural events year-round.
During the broadcast, guests associated with the IBICINE film festival joined the discussion, including Carmen Domínguez, councillor for culture and heritage, and Laura Planel, councillor for tourism, commerce, and markets. They spoke about the festival's thematic essence, "Journey to 1999," underscoring cinema's role as a conduit for understanding and championing Ibiza's cultural heritage.
Of course, the island’s biodiversity was also a key subject, and the significance of Posidonia Oceanica, colloquially known as the "green lung of the Mediterranean," was discussed. Lorena Pérez offered insights into the pivotal role played by this marine plant in safeguarding Ibiza's marine ecosystem.
As anticipated, Dalt Vila and the city's historic nucleus were the program’s guest stars, with Vicente Marí, president of the Ibiza council, discussing the area's illustrious history and distinctive architectural heritage.
