Interview with Recondite
Interview with Recondite
Hello, Lorenz. Hello Recondite. It's a pleasure to have you with us. Let's start at the beginning. How and when do you start with the music?
My first steps in producing were in 2007 - so 12 years ago. in 2006 i quit my job where i was working a lot, i saved some money and went traveling for 3 months. on this trip i decided that i will try not to only collect and play music but also make it.
What encouraged you to make the music you do? Influences?
first of all i was encouraged by the many years of collecting and excessively listening to music. all the deeper, darker, moody hip hip that i was listening to built the foundation for my musical taste. later i found also electronic music that had a similar vibe. the early tracks of efdemin and wighnomy brothers for example really helped me to switch from hip hop to electronic music.
The second question I suppose you have answered many times... Why the name of “Recondite”?
it s an adjective with latin origins. recondere means for example that something is s little bit hidden. held back. not completely obvious on the first sight. i like this idea especially in music.
There was a particular moment when you felt that music will be your career. Some performance, some track, some feedback from some important artist... Can you tell us a little more?
i think one of the biggest turning points was releasing my first record on my own label. (Plangent Records)
Like this i was independent and able to display an individual style. circumstances went well and i got good feedback on the record and from that time it was clear what musical atmosphere "recondite" stands for.
Let's talk about music. In most cases you act with the Live format instead of the DJ set. Many artists have both formats and both very fit. We believe that you are definitely opting for live. Is there a reason?
i mean - before i got into producing i was also DJing. but the last 10 years were very influenced by making my own music. It s something really unique if you can play in any kind of setting of a party for electronic music and still only play music from your own. it s a lot of fun adapting to different circumstances with your own catalogue.
But recently i also got back into DJing a bit. i enjoy occasional b2b sessions with friends, because this is a completely different approach. 2 persons on stage - going with the flow - playing the favorites.
For us you are an artist who in your live expresses everything that someone can not express with a dj set. It acquires a lot of force, intensity and forcefulness but... when you are making music in the studio you think in the live set or simply you let everything go flowing simply doing what you love?
My biggest goal while writing music is to be as unimpressed by any influenece or guideline as possible.
It s actually priority number one to try to work with the least amount of preassure.
i think it s the only way to maintain a naive and sorrow less approach to creativity. sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't. If i realize that it doesn't flow on a certain day - i stop and try again another day.
Do you have any habit, or method that you always follow to the letter in the studio?
not really to be honest. i try to keep it simple in general. maybe i could say that i m trying to be very sensitive towards a mood where i really feel like making music. like an urge to play around with music like a kid that wants to play with toys.
You're always making music. Do you have anything new in the bedroom that is going to surprise us? Tell us!
actually yes - i have a track on Afterlife soon and in fall 2019 my 6th Album will be out. I cant announce further details yet - but everything is ready. I m really looking forward to this.
What was the first time you came to Ibiza? What do you like the most? And the least? Tell us what do you remember...
Richie Hawtin invited me to his Enter Party at the former Space. I played in the small room which was super fun.
I think i was lucky to get the experience and chance to play my first Ibiza show in a very open and relaxed atmosphere.
Was a really unexpected impression for me. It was my first time ever on the Island and I expected it to be more posh and intense. I m grateful to Richie that he gave me this opportunity.
Last year we were able to see you around Ibiza in different places. I suppose we'll see you again this year. Can you tell us a little more? Dates, places...
Yes I will be at Afterlife several times - i will also be at Circoloco like last year and one more is in the works but i m sorry that i cant announce the dates yet.
Thank you so much Recondite!!
