Armin Van Buuren X Ocean Drive: 16 Years Accompanying an Electronic Music Legend

At Ocean Drive Ibiza, we are celebrating. As you already know, this year 2023 marks our 25th year open to the public. 25 years as a hotel, but also as an icon and haven for countless electronic music artists of great recognition, who summer after summer land on our island to light up the nights of the world's most emblematic and famous clubs.

We have been preparing for this moment for some time, where we want to honor and thank all those who have placed their trust in us. But we also want new faces and personalities to resonate with our essence and philosophy. To achieve this, we have worked hard on a commemorative campaign that is bringing us great joy. The 25th-anniversary campaign is composed of three main pillars: an interior redesign, ongoing music promotion, and a tribute to three prominent DJ artists with a very special connection to the Ocean Drive Ibiza hotel.

The façade of our hotel is well-known to the island's residents and frequent visitors, but its interior has now been completely renovated. The new Ocean Drive immerses you in the elegance of Art Deco, geometric lines, and colors that transport you to the wonderful and golden 1920s: redesigned common areas, a new lobby, an elegant restaurant, terrace, hall, and a sky bar with the best views of the city.

Continuing with the renovated spaces of the legendary Ocean Drive, one of our novelties is the cozy "Listening Corner," where we hold a monthly musical event that aims to restore analog sounds to their deserved prominence. "Analog Explorer" is the spark that brings Ocean Drive back to its roots; we bring back an organic and natural sound, taking attendees on an authentic auditory journey. The "Listening Corner" is also a space for more intimate enjoyment. At any time of day, you can visit it to enjoy great music hits in vinyl format, thanks to two high-fidelity record players and an extensive collection of records that will delight all music enthusiasts.

Our hotel wouldn't be what it is without its guests. Many of them are national and international DJs who have sought in us the comfort and tranquility of feeling at home once their sessions are over. Each of them has left a mark on the current personality, character, and DNA of Ocean Drive, giving rise to "made of music, made of moments," our great tribute to those who have chosen us. For this reason, we have named three of our suites after the names of three of these great DJs. Each of these rooms contains a signed photo and a memento that the artists themselves have gifted to the hotel on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Can you imagine sleeping in the Armin Van Buuren suite? Well, it's possible.

Armin Van Buuren was born in the city of Leiden, Netherlands, on December 25, 1976. His musical motivation was sparked by his father, a great lover of Christian music. On the other hand, from an early age, he had a keen interest in computing and technology, which eventually led him to acquire his first mixer. Alongside a synthesizer inherited from his father, these became his first steps towards music production.

Who would have thought that that young boy would become the widely recognized master of electronic music he is today? In the prestigious DJ Magazine ranking, Armin has held the title of the world's number one DJ multiple times, specifically in the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012. This achievement is truly exceptional, as he is the only artist so far to have won this award consecutively for four years and to have secured the top spot five times in total.

Since 2001, Armin has been the mastermind behind "A State of Trance," a radio program that airs weekly, reaching an audience of millions of people in various countries around the world. This program has become one of the most internationally listened to, marking its influence on the electronic music scene.

With the release of his studio album "Imagine" in 2008, he quickly ascended to the number one spot on the Dutch album charts. This milestone marked a significant achievement, as he became the first electronic music artist to reach that coveted position on the music charts of the Netherlands.

His work's quality was underscored in 2014 when he was nominated for a coveted Grammy Award in the Best Dance Recording category for his successful single "This Is What It Feels Like," in collaboration with the talented Trevor Guthrie. This recognition only reaffirmed the global influence of his music.

In the United States, he achieved an impressive record by having twenty-one albums on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart. His impact on the dance and electronic music scene is undeniable, and his legacy continues to grow with each new creation he shares with the world.

We were fortunate, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of our Ocean Drive Ibiza hotel, to travel to the Armada Music offices in Amsterdam to interview the electronic music legend, Armin Van Buuren. During the interview, we had the opportunity to learn about his beginnings in the world of music, his connection with the island of Ibiza, and, of course, with our Ocean Drive hotels.

When Armin Van Buuren arrived on the island of Ibiza, he was seeking a magic that everyone had talked to him about but didn't find on his first visit. It took him years to understand the Balearic rhythm, the hippie culture, the uniqueness of its coves, its gastronomy... Finally, he understood that he would find the magic by immersing himself in Ibiza's life, not just passing through it. 16 years as a resident in Ibiza, always staying at Ocean Drive. Nowadays, he himself acknowledges that staying at our hotel is "like coming home," which couldn't make us feel better.
